We’ve had a very busy year full of achievements and firsts at Laurus Cheadle Hulme (LCH).
From kicking off with Stockport County’s manager opening our 3G pitch in Autumn, to then being dazzled with amazing performances for Chicago in Spring, to saying farewell to our founding cohort in the Summer – it truly has been an unforgettable year!
As we say goodbye for now, we hope you enjoy reading some of the highlights from the Summer Term!
LCH does ARTiculation
At the very start of the Summer Term, we hosted our own ARTiculation competition.
Six students had 10 minutes to deliver a speech on a work of art of their choice.
They spoke about why they chose the piece, gave some background on the artist, and discussed any controversy or interesting facts surrounding the works.
All speeches were brilliant, but the judges had to pick their winners.
Congratulations to our winner, Emily, and to Lila (2nd) and Mariam (3rd).
A big well done to everyone who took part, you all did a brilliant job!
LCH Musician of the Year 2023
In June, we held the final of our annual Musician of the Year (MOTY) competition.
It was a fantastic afternoon as 8 finalists performed with a live audience of 40 music students who also all received awards.
Well done to winner Casper!
Summer Sounds
The Summer Sounds concert of 2023 was an amazing night of celebration, with nearly 140 students showcasing their musical skills.
The concert featured performances from the School Choir, Senior Voices, the String Orchestra, Woodwind Group, various bands and the School Orchestra.
The audience also enjoyed a number of soloists including this year’s LCH MOTY, electric guitarist Casper.
The choir and orchestra performed repertoire that will be part of the concert programme for next year’s Belgium Music Tour, including ‘You Will Be Found’ from the musical Dear Evan Hansen and Bizet’s ‘Habernera’ from Carmen.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who performed in the Summer Sounds Concert and cannot wait to see what they will achieve next academic year!
Sports Day
On Monday, some of LCH’s finest athletes, both students and staff, took to the track to compete in a range of events for Sports Day 2023.
It was an incredible day of competition across the whole school, with every student giving it their all in the pursuit of House Sport Cup glory.
We even had staff races and tug of war!
Congratulations to Magnus who were the Sports Day Champions!
Well done all students that took part and represented their Houses, lots of great effort and talent on show.
House Cup
Today, we had the highly anticipated House Cup assembly.
Everyone came together to see which House would be crowned this year’s winners.
It was all to play for in a close competition this year, but we can now announce the winners of the House Cup are Citius!
Announcing next year’s school production…
This year’s musical launch was our busiest in LCH history!
The auditorium was packed with students from Years 7 -11, all anxiously waiting to hear what next year’s show would be.
Students were ecstatic to find out that the 2024 whole school musical will be…Grease Schools Edition!
After the success of Chicago this year, we just know it’s going to be brilliant!
Outstanding Trust-wide performances
We felt incredibly proud to see many of our talented musicians and actors perform in two big Laurus Trust events.
Laurus Music presents Laurus Live
On 4th July, we headed to the Royal Northern College of Music’s Concert Hall for an evening of outstanding musical performances in Laurus Live.
Students from all Laurus Trust Secondaries put on a brilliant show, impressing the audience with their musical abilities.
Musicians from LCH represented our school with pride and left us all wanting to hear more.
Well done to all the talented students and staff involved!
Laurus Limelights presents Beginnings
The very next week, we were treated to a spectacular evening of drama at Cheadle Hulme High School.
Performing Arts students from across the Trust came together for Laurus Limelights’ first ever showcase, Beginnings.
Working collaboratively as an ensemble, they expertly performed a selection of texts from celebrated playwrights.
It was a great evening and we look forward to seeing more from our students involved in Laurus Limelights as they take advantage of the many creative and cultural opportunities the programme offers!
Our First GCSE Art Exhibition
We had lots of students and families come to see their brilliant GCSE work at our first ever Art Exhibition.
Our GCSE Art students have worked incredibly hard this year and it was fantastic to see their work be celebrated.
Mr Pete enjoyed taking his own children, who were enthralled with the sketchbooks on display!
The Art department wish them all the success in the future and hope they continue to follow their creative dreams.
Our first Year 11 Prom
It was a bittersweet moment when we said farewell to our founding cohort of students at Year 11 prom.
As the first ever year group to attend our school, we have shared many LCH firsts together, with this prom being one of them.
It was a fantastic evening of celebration, as everyone came together to shed a tear and raise a glass (of orange juice!) to the Class of 2023.
We wish them all the best for their future endeavours!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole LCH community for making this academic year the success it has been.
Thank you to the parents, carers and families who have come and supported the students at the many events we’ve had, both internal and external.
Thank you to all of our teaching and support staff for your endless passion and commitment, going above and beyond to do whatever it takes.
And finally, thank you to our amazing students for doing your best each and every day, it is phenomenal to see how much you have achieved in the past 12 months.
From all of us at LCH, we would like to wish you and your families an enjoyable and refreshing summer.
