Last week, Year 9 students from Laurus Cheadle Hulme had two exciting opportunities to explore the world of work and learn about different career paths and sectors.
On Tuesday 21st November 2023, the whole year group attended a World of Work event in school.
At the annual event, they met and interviewed a wide range of business people from different sectors and organisations.
The students learned about various job roles and career pathways, and what skills and qualities are needed for a successful career after leaving school.
The World of Work experience created a real buzz among the students, who said they gained valuable insights and inspiration from the visitors.
On the following day, a group of 21 lucky students were invited by Willmott Dixon, one of the UK’s leading construction companies, to visit their Stockport Interchange project.
The mixed-use development is set to transform the town centre with a new transport interchange, a large public park, and residential apartments.
Students participated in various activities throughout the day, such as estimating the cost and designing a new building, and building electrical circuits.
They even had the chance to tour the site before the grand opening!
It was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore different careers in construction, and to hear from employees from Willmott Dixon, who shared their insights and experiences in the construction sector.
The careers trip and World of Work events were organised as part of our school’s wider commitment to developing students’ skills and aspirations for the future.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the World of Work, and to Willmott Dixon for the site visit.
