We may all still be subject to restrictions due to the pandemic but we’ve not let that stop us at Laurus Cheadle Hulme. It’s been a busy and fun-packed term and we have continued running additional events and welcoming speakers to school, albeit in a slightly different and socially distanced way.
Some of our Year 9 students took part in a workshop with the Laurus Trust’s Head of Voice, Tom Morrison, learning how to produce and deliver a TED Talk while children’s writer Matt Dickinson also dropped in for a virtual visit, speaking about his experiences of climbing Mount Everest.
UK Parliament Week was another great success, with students taking part in the UK Youth Parliament’s Make Your Mark campaign, engaging in some thoughtful debate on important issues.
We’ve also enjoyed additional activities celebrating Black History Month in October and more recently for the trust-wide codebreaking week, where staff and students were involved in solving a series of fun maths challenges.
Creativity has also been flowing amongst students this term. A magnificent mural they’ve designed has been unveiled in the library and a striking and a moving art installation for Remembrance Day has been on display outside the school building. We also received some fantastic entries for the design a pumpkin competition.
We congratulate all our students on how well they’ve adapted this term and how hard they’ve worked throughout a challenging year. We are very proud of each and every one of them and look forward to slowly being able to return to normal in January.
